Halloween Playgroup

Try to imagine this:
15 moms
5 babies
10 toddlers
10 pre-schoolers

in my house...

Can you say, extreme chaos? Yesterday was the Halloween episode of our playgroup, and everyone turned out in costume for the festivities. There are lots of pictures here, but I will share this one, which clearly depicts the day:

Aging the parents

Marty has had some excitement lately that has me tweezing more gray hairs than normal. Let's get the negative stuff out of the way first: Marty fell out of his crib yesterday, in an attempt to avoid napping. This is my 3-4 hour per day, every day napping child. He had the wind knocked out of him and cried and does have a bruise but is otherwise ok and recovered quickly. But he did not take a nap. Today, he also did not take a nap. Now, Rob is great but yesterday he cleaned the garage and Saturday we went to his mom's and today he went to work... so I haven't had a moment to myself in 3 days and it's Monday. I came come to meltdown today and just put Marty in the car. My voicemail to Rob said, "We are getting in the car; it's the safest place (sob) for us right now. I have my knitting and am driving until Marty falls asleep. Meet me in Novi." (poor Rob) Marty slept a bit in the car and then had a fabulous time at Chuck E. Cheese.

In more happy news, today Marty said "bug" about a ladybug and "counting" about an abacus. An ancient counting device. I am amazed. At bath time, I am pretty sure he said "in bathtub" but could be mistaken.

No pictures today because we are lucky to be showered, much less look for the camera. Let's hope napping resumes shortly.

Annual Trip to Spicer's

We live near a lovely apple orchard that offers all kinds of fun stuff for kids. This year Marty was able to really appreciate the activities, and, unlike his parents, he did not mind the cold. Here's a glimpse:

Mornings with Marty

It's 9AM and already Marty has:

Come perilously close to climbing out of his crib (straddling the crib rail right on front of me!)
Made the sound of a horse for the first time
Said the word 'eyes' for the first time
Asked for at least 5 books

Good thing I've already had some coffee this morning!

Saturday babbling

Rob and I woke up to the sounds of Marty happily entertaining himself in his crib. For some reason, he was making truck sounds. Deep, gutteral, truck sounds. Did he hear one drive by? Was a book on the floor opened to display a fire engine or dump truck? There's no way to know. Needless to say, we were highly entertained.

Now that Rob has a great new job, weekends are special occasions instead of an extension of the same. Marty was quite thrilled to have Rob be his morning greeter. (Well, so was I!) They've just left for a fun trip to Home Depot - we need lightbulbs. Marty is wearing the pumpkin hat that I just finished knitting; it was too small for baby Evan (apparently Mary's babies have large heads). You'll have to use your imagination to picture me running gleefully from room to room, alone in the house for the first time in weeks. I leave you with this picture:

Naked baby alert!

Is anything cuter than a naked baby running around, squeeling with laughter as parents give chase, hoping to catch said baby before the carpet is peed on?

Tonight, Marty went upstairs, removed his poopy diaper, and came back downstairs naked. Both parents thought the other had an eye on him and were quite confused as to why poop was all over the upstairs hallway (And yes it is carpeted, oh yes of course. We don't poo on the tiled floors around here.)

In other news, Marty brought me a kangaroo toy today and said, "Hop!" All poo aside, I feel like the luckiest mom in the world.

Thanks for visiting!

I recently started blogging for my knitting projects, and it dawned on me how much fun it would be to also have a blog (or Web log) for our family events. The gallery pictures are great, but the blog lets us tell a story with every picture. Plus, so much changes with Marty every day, and I never tire of talking/writing about him. So, now you can read all about it and share these wonderful times with us. Please feel free to leave comments!

Since this is our first entry and it's almost 1AM, I will cut this short but leave you with one fantastic picture of Marty in his bike trailer:
